LEARNING MORE ABOUT SINGLE-SIDED DEAFNESS IN CHILDREN, ONE EAR AT A TIME

We are conducting a research study at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill to investigate outcomes in very young children who are deaf in one ear and receive a cochlear implant. We also want to understand how children with hearing in only one ear are different from children with hearing in two ears. Infants and toddlers in the study who are deaf in one ear will receive a cochlear implant before they turn three. We will compare hearing, communication, behavior, learning, and sensory processing skills between children with SSD and a cochlear implant, children with SSD who do not have a cochlear implant, and children with typical hearing in both ears.
